Historic Shopping District

In 1871, the Great Chicago Fire started a rebuilding boom. Lumber from Northern Michigan became in high demand. The Maple River was dammed and Pellston was settled as a riverside saw mill for the logging industry. In 1883, rail service began to Mackinaw City. Pelston boomed with logging demand; however, by the 1890's the forest were consumed and the boom ended. In 1909, the University of Michigan Biostation opened on the shores of Douglas Lake. In the 1930's, two massive fires consumed most of the old town. In 1941, Pellston Airport was opened. In 1995, Antiques Art & Collectibles opened in downtown. In 2012, a new streetscape came to Pellston replacing ancient sidewalks and power poles with fresh brick and concrete, underground wiring, and low energy street lights.

Today downtown Pellston consists of historic buildings along US 31 between Mackinaw City and Petoskey... come visit this beautiful and vibrant shopping district! The Historic Downtown shopping district is anchored by the popular Antiques Art & Collectibles store housed in artistically renovated 1800's brick buildings. Featuring five floors of unique vintage, retro, Victorian and antique treasures, as well as the Summer Fun Antique Courtyard and the famous Bargain Attic, Antiques Art & Collectibles is a must-see destination for a unique Northern Michigan experience.
